Diamondbacks To Take Look At Guerrero
Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers has been planning a trip to the Dominican Republic to scout and while there he will take a look at Vladimir Guerrero.
"Who knows what comes of it," Towers said.
Arizona's vice president of Latin operations, Junior Noboa, organized the workout.
"Junior knows him and likes him and says he looks good," Towers said. "Junior knows him well, and he's in the Dominican right now. (Noboa) said he's in good shape. I'm going to be down there for a workout anyway."
Report: Inge To Sign With Athletics
Brandon Inge has agreed to sign a contract with the Athletics, according to a person with knowledge of the talks.
Oakland has been mixing and matching at third base so far this season.
Inge was released by the Tigers on Thursday after batting .100 (2 for 20) with one home run and two RBIs in nine games this season.
Blue Jays Deny Interest In Big Bat, Pitcher
Alex Anthopoulos has refuted a recent report that the Blue Jays are looking for a big bat and front-line starter.
Anthopoulos emphatically denied the claims that stated Toronto was "hunting diligently" for upgrades in both areas.
"I've had zero dialogue with GMs right now on anything remotely resembling that," he said Sunday. "That's no knock against the report, but it just goes to show you how many things -- it's beyond way out there."
Inge Definitely On A's Radar
There is a chance that the Athletics will look to sign Brandon Inge, who was released by the Tigers this week.
Inge can't sign with a team until he clears release waivers and that won't likely happen until after the weekend.
The Orioles and Twins have also been linked to Inge, but the A's need help at third base as much as anybody.
With No Natural Fit, Abreu May Have To Go To Triple-A
There is no natural fit for Bobby Abreu following his release from the Angels.
The Indians may have been a match, but they recently agreed to a deal with Johnny Damon.
If Abreu wants to continue his career, he may have to agree to play at the Triple-A level.
Could Twins Have Interest In Inge?
Having been released by the Tigers, many wonder whether the Twins could show interest in infielder Brandon Inge.
"The chance to go play maybe somewhere else might be good for me, personally," Inge said Thursday night.
The Tigers owe Inge $5.5 million this year. He can sign with any club, with that club owing him the pro-rated major league minimum.
Reyes: Mets Should Re-Sign Wright
Playing his first series against the Mets since leaving as a free agent to sign with the Marlins, Jose Reyes offered his former team some free advice: re-sign David Wright.
"That's good if they can bring David back, he's a symbol of the game," he said.
Wright is in the final guaranteed season of the six-year, $55 million extension he signed at age 23.
The Mets hold a $16 million team option for 2013.
Dodgers Want To Sign Ethier To Extension
Ned Colletti wants to explore signing Andre Ethier to a contract extension soon after new owners take over the Dodgers next week.
"I've always been inclined to keep him," Colletti said. "His start certainly hasn't hurt."
Ethier will be eligible for free agency when his one-year, $10.95-million deal expires at the end of the season.
Nez Balelo, Ethier's agent, has said the outfielder would be open to negotiating a multiyear deal with the team's new owners during the season.
"We understand the position the Los Angeles Dodgers organization was in," Balelo said at the end of spring training.
"We understand we had to be patient while the transition took place. If new ownership has interest in having discussions to keep Andre here in Los Angeles for years to come, yes, we would be open to having those discussions."
Mets Didn't Attempt To Re-Sign Reyes
During his first trip back to New York since he left the Mets, Jose Reyes said the team never attempted to re-sign him.
"If they don't make me any offer," the Marlins shortstop said, "that means they don't want me to play here. That's why I play for another team now."
Reyes repeatedly told reporters that he no longer fretted over New York's decision to sit out his free-agent courtship.
When asked if he would've stayed with the Mets if they had matched Miami's six-year, $106-million offer, Reyes said:
"That's in the past. If I say yes, if I say no, that's not going to change anything. ... I can't say if I was going to stay here or not because they didn't offer anything."
Rays, Matsui Close To Minor League Deal

Tampa Bay wants to add to their depth at Triple-A Durham and to see how much is left in the slugger's bat.
Matsui, 37, spent last seaon with the Athletics, posting a .251 batting average with 12 home runs and 78 RBIs.
